A great addition to the line up. We’re so pleased to have been able to source such a beautiful old dram from a truly quality focused distillery. And then to top it off this one has such a wonderful well balanced sherry influence, we immediately gave it a thumbs up. Very limited and greatly appreciated.

Founded in 1897 the name “Tomatin” comes from the Gaelic for “Juniper Hill”. The legend being that illegal stills were once fuelled by relatively smokeless juniper wood to avoid detection by passing authorities. At one point it was the biggest distillery in Scotland but shifted it’s stance from quantity to quality since it’s purchase in 1985 by Japanese parent company Takara Shuzo Company. The soft water of nearby Alt na Frith, run from the mountains to the west and is used in production of an ever growing and evolving single malt range.

Nose: A fruity nose of strawberries, lychee, apple and banana along with light baked pasty, cinnamon and vanilla buns. With water the fruit medley continues with Turkish delight coming in as well.
Taste: Very juicy and fruity on the pallet with baked cherries and popping candy. Cooking apples and black tea add balance. With water, a fruit salad of lychee, apple, strawberries and currants bursts through.
