Ninth release

Our Ninth Release

“Every cask is unique and different” – No truer words are spoken in the whisky world. In our ninth release all three bottlings are ex- bourbon barrels – yet all three are completely different in style and flavour.

The Three Pillars

Introducing our ninth release of three single cask bottlings which include none other than a 16yo single cask Islay! Our Bruichladdich Lochindaal is a truly special whisky. Having been matured in a single 1st fill bourbon barrel for 16 years this spirit is one of only 200 or so casks of ‘Lochindaal’ new make ever produced. A heavily peated Bruichladdich only released to private individuals in the late 2000s. Peated to 50 PPM this whisky not only packs a punch but has sweetness and complexity from the 1st fill bourbon maturation.

Second, we have our Craigellachie 16yo. Having been custodians of this cask since June 2023 we have carefully managed it’s maturation in a refill barrel, in June last year we felt it needed a slight lift in flavour and subsequently re-racked this spirit into a very active ex-bourbon barrel, giving it a 2nd Fill Bourbon finish for 15 months. The result is sweetness, fruits and cereal notes along with the Craigellachie meatiness from the spirit coming through as well. At only 125 bottles this will not last long!

Finally, we have a delicious, nectar dram of Glenlossie 10yo. Finished for 22 months, it is everything you’d expect from a 1st fill bourbon Speyside. Sweet, fruity, with slight spice notes appearing along some berries and caramel as well!

A perfect trio for the mix of the festive season! As always, please dram responsibly.

Awards success and accolades

Following on from our success at the World Whisky Awards, Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition, and the International Wines and Spirits Competition we achieved our biggest medal haul yet at the Spirits Selection by CMB with 6 medals, including 2 Grand Gold (one of only 3 Scotch to do so), 3 Gold and 1 Silver.

However, topping that still, were the awards from the most important judges, you! Two festivals in a row (The Whisky Lounge York & The Whisky Lounge Manchester) we were voted as Stand of the Day. To be voted as the best stand by the people who matter the most is the highest award of all. Especially given the other brands exhibiting alongside us! Many thanks to all who came, chatted, tried some drams and voted for us!

Single Malt from Bruichladdich Distillery

Sweet smoke from a bonfire on a beach fills the lungs. The peat and medicinal notes are superbly intertwined with citrus notes on the nose. On the palate the ‘sweet & peat’ mixes tremendously. Tropical fruits like apricots, oranges, lemon along with a slight maltiness and sea salt – and of course peat. A very long, lingering finish just prolongs the enjoyment. The reduced nose is similar but also brings hints of chocolate and caramel. On the palate it becomes creamier but also with hints of pepper and cinnamon joining the medley. What a treat!

Single Malt from Craigellachie Distillery

Orchard fruits such as apples, pears along with a more concentrated sweetness like syrup from tinned fruit fill the nose. The taste neat continues the sweet theme with baked apple turnover that’s been coated with slightly burnt crystalised sugar on the crust, the syrup sweetness continues to prevail. With water more cereal notes develop, like walking through a barley and fruit farm. Images of Icing covered Victoria sponge come to mind as well. On the reduced palate it simply bursts with juicy fruits and sweetness with peaches joining in the array of flavours.

Single Malt from Glenlossie Distillery

A fresh sweet nose of green apples, icing sugar, Victoria sponge cake and a hint of caramel and marzipan. First sips continue with apples, pears with a cinnamon spice – a nice tingling with a medium finish. With water, aromas of orchard fruits continue and are more prominent with some berries coming through as well. Nutmeg spice adds to the fruits on the reduced palate this time around. Sweet, fruity with a nice warming spice. Beautiful.
